SSS, also known as "Sinoatrial node dysfunction" or "Tachycardia-Bradycardia syndrome," is the name given to a group of arrhythmias in which the sinus node, the heart’s natural pacemaker, doesn’t send impulses properly. Atrial flutter is characterized by a rapid, but regular heartbeat that causes the atria to beat too fast, producing atrial muscle contractions that are faster than and out of sync with the ventricles.Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of arrhythmia. These cause rapid, uncoordinated, weak contractions of the atria and blood is not moved from the atria into the ventricles effectively. Atrial fibrillation is a rapid, irregular heart rate caused by chaotic electrical impulses in the atria. Risk of stroke or heart failure is increased if either atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter is not controlled or persists for more than a couple of days. Ventricular tachycardia lasting longer that a few seconds can lead to ventricular fibrillation, the most serious and life-threatening cardiac rhythm disturbance.Ītrial fibrillation and flutter are arrhythmias involving the atria.
